LOGOTYPE DESIGN
CUSTOM LETTERING

With the rise of Latin American artists in the late 1990s, New York magazine created an issue fully devoted to this culture and renamed the issue Nueva York. Along with Jonathan Hoefler of Hoefler & Co., we created a logo that mimicked the stylings of the existing New York logo (see below).

Our focus was creating the new characters ‘V’ and ‘A’ along with finessing the curves of the ‘Y’ to envelop the “Nueva” mimicking the original. The end result is a logo that purposely requires a double take as New York magazine is one of the most recognizable editorial identities.
