LOGOTYPE DESIGN
CUSTOM LETTERING

Seeking to fill a void in the magazine industry, King was a voice for young African-American men. Unlike the mainstream waif-sized models on high-fashion publications, King celebrated women’s natural curves through close-up photography that popped off the page. This style of photography called for a bold, oversized logo that would compliment the cover model and typography. We designed a logo reminiscent of late 1800’s wood-type letterpress printing with customized letterforms. Tight letter spacing mimicked moveable-type printing by keeping space between each character instead of digitally crashing the letters into each other.
