Sketch #1: Subway Symbolism

Taking a cue from the hand-painted numbers on New York City streetcars of the early 1900s, the first logo direction transforms a bold number 5 into the profile of a rabbit. This optical illusion creates a unique logomark that is memorable and representative of vintage New York City. Encapsulating this mark within a circle results in a contemporary look with a nod to subway graphics. The custom rounded letterforms are organic and friendly to present a welcoming visual for fundraising efforts.

Sketch #2: Archway Statue

The informational flowing lines of subway maps of the past and present was the starting point of this design. A continuous line forms the shape of a rabbit’s profile with a statuesque result. Combing both rounded and sharp lines within the drawing is intentional as the final form feels like the Statue of Liberty as a rabbit. A custom font was created to match the style of the line drawings and then presented as an archway to protect the rabbit in its burrow.

Sketch #3: Urban Stencil

Camouflage designs are commonly earth tones and organic shapes mimicking natural landscapes. During the Cold War of the 1980s, a British Army major invented a gridded pattern camouflage in preparation of urban warfare. We used this concept to create a stencil number 5 in the shape of a rabbit as a logomark. Combining the rabbit mark with a custom upper and lowercase stencil logo completes this street-tough, yet charming urban look.

Sketch #4: Graffiti Bunny

If you think you can catch this bunny in the act, you may be right as this snapshot of a graffiti-style bunny character captures the “5 Burrow Rabbit Rescue” masterpiece while the paint dries. This bold outlined and multicolored logo captures the essence of graffiti bubble letters while staying friendly and inviting. Bright colors are reminiscent of the subway colorways, but adjusted for a fundraising-friendly palette. The black perspective lines stabilize the logo completing its mural-like style.
